Glasshouse studies were conducted to ascertain the effects of intercropping on the growth and development of rose grain aphid, Metopolophium dirhodum (Walker), and its parasitoid Aphidius rhopalosiphi (De Steph.) using aphid susceptible 'Marls Huntsman' wheat cultivars. The effect of intercropping wheat with peas (non-host plants) influenced the growth and development of the aphid and its parasitoid. Larger sized aphids and parasitoids were produced in the two treatments 'two rows of peas per row of wheat' and 'three rows of peas per row of wheat' when compared with the treatments: 'alternate rows of peas and wheat' and 'sole wheat'. Percentage parasitism in one row of wheat intercropped with three rows of peas' was significantly higher than with 'alternate rows of pea and wheat' and 'sole wheat'. The growth and development of the aphid and its parasitoid were greater when aphid population per plant was low. BR Animals and man. Disturbance by man. Commercial activities.
