comment:
none Laboratory studies were undertaken to evaluate the sensitivity and suitability of 5 host species (Galleria mellonella, Ephestia cautella, Sesamia cretica, Spodoptera littoralis and Ostrinia nubilalis) to the parasitoid, Bracon brevicornis. Galleria larvae were the most sensitive species to the parasitoid's venom. Within any given species, parasitoid females deposited more eggs on the ventral than dorsal side of a larva. Considerable mortality of newly hatched larvae of the parasitoid was recorded on Spodoptera larvae. Only 3 of 20 Spodoptera larvae allowed successful development and emergence of the parasitoid. Although the parasitoid accepted successfully all host species, longevity of parent females as well as the number of formed cocoons and emerged adults progeny were greatest from Sesamia larvae. Also, parasitoid adults reared from Sesamia or Ostrinia were larger than those reared from the other host species.
