The author describes the population dynamics and biology of the silver Y moth [Autographa gamma (L.)] in the Voronezh region, where outbreaks have occurred at times. Observations in this region showed that the Noctuid had three generations a year and overwintered as a larva in the 3rd-4th instars. Numbers in the first generation were low, development being completed on pea and weeds. Second- and in part third-generation larvae, however, were injurious to sugar-beet. Up to 85% parasitism of the eggs by Trichogramma was noted, and 33% parasitism of the pupae by Ichneumonids and Tachinids, while the larvae were parasitised basically by Ichneumonids. The commonest parasites were Rogas ductor (Thrib.) (reticulator Nees), Copidosoma (Litomastix) truncatellum (Dalm.), Microplitis spinolae (Nees), Euplectrus bicolor (Swed.), Exorista (Tachina) larvarum (L.) and Apanteles spurius (Wesm.). For control on sugar-beet, Trichogramma is released as oviposition is beginning and again when it reaches its peak, at 10 000-20 000 individuals/ha. For the control of early-instar larvae, spraying is carried out with trichlorphon (chlorofos) at 2 kg/ha. none
