Two larval parasitoids, Diadegma semiclausum Hellen and Cotesia plutellae (Kurdj), were imported from Taiwan and were released in cabbage-growing areas in the Philippines in 1990 for the management of the diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella L., a very destructive insect pest of Brassica crops worldwide. Diadegma is suited in areas of high elevation (more than 800m above sea level [ASL] ) with temperatures lower than 25 C. while Cotesia is suited in areas with low or mid elevations of less than 800m ASL with temperatures above 25 C. This paper is a review of the evaluation for effectiveness in small-scale field experiments, piloting in farmer- participated demo farms and promotion of Diadegma and Cotesia in cabbage-growing areas in the highlands (Benguet and Mountain Province) and of Cotesia in the cabbage-growing areas in the lowlands (Northern and Southern Luzon), respectively, from August 1989 to 2001 and their subsequent establishment in said areas.
